Law firm Moye White recently served as a marquee sponsor for the 2021 Denver Film Festival and Denver Film’s year-round mission. The Denver Business Journal covered the sponsorship in a feature story about the festival’s new hybrid setup.
The article, Denver Film Festival Launches With New Hybrid Model, was published on November 3. The article is below.
Denver Film leaders hadn’t considered transitioning their decades-old Denver Film Festival into a hybrid virtual/in-person gathering before the coronavirus hit. But, as it turns out, the necessity of doing so may be creating unimagined opportunities for the event and for its participants.
The 44th version of the festival opens tonight and runs through Nov. 14, featuring some 233 films, as well as immersive and virtual-reality offerings, panel discussions and special presentations. It comes on the heels of last year’s all-remote festival, which brought with it limits on the revenue the event could generate but spawned a rethinking of how the festival could appeal to – and be seen by – the widest audience possible.
The crowds will return this year in person – a particularly welcome site to James Mejia, who stepped in to become CEO of the Denver Film arts organization last year during the pandemic and weathered a long span without in-person showings of any kind.
Mejia [also] said he’s gotten good responses from attendees to the venues.
He’s also gotten good responses from sponsors, including a trove of new corporate sponsors – such as tech giant Amazon and local law firm Moye White – and partnerships with organizations like the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. Though often overshadowed by the films on the screens, such business-community support is invaluable to an organization like Denver Film that went through major revenue reductions and some staff layoffs over the past 18 months.
